Living Alone

One of life’s difficult questions

Here is a simple, but ‘difficult’ question to ask yourself.

“If I died in my sleep tonight, how long would it be before someone found my body?”

If the honest answer is that it may be a day or more – perhaps because people do not call in or phone you often – and you only go out every few days – then you should consider signing up to the Alertacall Safety Confirmation system.

Not just for if you die

Alertacall isn’t just about being discovered if you die – it has other advantages too! It helps you feel safer because it confirms you are OK each day and can get help to you if you are not:

  • You get new large-button phone with an ‘I’m OK’ button on it. It is easy to plug in and works just like a normal phone.
  • Each day, before a time that you choose, you press the button to let the Alertacall team know you are OK. e.g. After you get up and before you go to bed.
  • If you do not press the button you get a call from the people at Alertacall checking that everything is OK. You control the level of contact.
  • If they cannot get hold of you they can then notify up to 3 of your friends or family to let them know they have not had contact.

The advantages of the Alertacall system are often not appreciated until it is tried. For example, your friends or relatives will not keep phoning to find out whether or not they have inherited from you yet… Instead, they will call because they genuinely want to chat to you.

Safety check is used by:

  • People who do not want a panic button or who often do not wear theirs. (Alertacall can also provide an alarm button service to if required.)
  • Independent people who enjoy their privacy but need a ’safety net’.
  • People with medical conditions e.g. insulin treated diabetes.
